Marlene Kim Connor-Lynch is the author of several books. Her latest book, Welcome to the Family: Memories of the Past for a Bright Future, was published in January 2006 by Broadway/Doubleday. Marlene is an accomplished literary agent and former editor for The Literary Guild of America, Simon and Schuster Publishing Company and Random House. She began her literary agency in New York City in the mid-eighties before moving to the Twin Cities in 1995.

Workshop Description
Duke Ellington, like all artists, was passionate about his discipline. In this workshop Marlene will work with students to help them identify their personal passions and create a book, poem, story or song conveying their passion.

To Prepare Your Students

• Read The Piano Prince by Andrea Davis Pinkney
• Listen to at least two Duke Ellington selections on the companion CD
• Complete one additional activity in the Teacher's Resource Guide
