Minneapolis (March 9, 2007) – VocalEssence is pleased to announce that Kimberly Meisten has joined the staff as Director of Community Engagement. In this role she will oversee the WITNESS School Program, the Essentially Choral reading program for emerging choral composers, the Welcome Christmas! Carol Contest, the Talented Tenth Apprentice Program, and the development of new initiatives such as ¡Cantare!, an outreach to the Spanish-language community.
“We are delighted that Kimberly Meisten has joined VocalEssence as Director of Community Engagement,” says VocalEssence artistic director Philip Brunelle. “She brings us wonderful experience from her work in Baltimore that I know will help further the significant relationships that we have with area schools and peer organizations.”
For the past four years, Kimberly served as Director of Public Programs at The Baltimore Museum of Art, where she co-curated the exhibition The Art of Music from The Baltimore Museum of Art and served as the liaison to the BMA’s African-American Friends Group, the Joshua Johnson Council. She also worked with community organizations on partnerships with the Museum including the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra, Johns Hopkins University and the Shriver Hall Concert Series. In addition to her work with the Museum, she sang with the Baltimore Choral Arts Society.
Before arriving to the Baltimore Museum of Art in 2003, she worked at Winterthur Museum & Country Estate in Delaware for seven years, where she developed changing exhibitions and led the Office of Continuing Education.
Kimberly graduated from the College of William and Mary (Williamsburg, VA) with a Bachelor of Arts in music where she discovered her passion for music and education. After graduation, she went on to earn her Master of Arts at the Cooperstown Graduate Program (Cooperstown, NY) in History Museum Studies.
