Soak in the intimate beauty of the human voice in this unique chamber performance exploring the relationship between the human and the divine. Joining the VocalEssence Ensemble Singers on this journey will be Saint Paul Chamber Orchestra Associate Concertmaster Ruggero Allifranchini. Skillfully selected for the space, the wide-ranging blend of music from all over the world includes György Ligeti’s 16-part Lux Aeterna, made famous in the 1968 film 2001: A Space Odyssey.

Three things to know
- When Stanly Kubrick’s 2001: A Space Odyssey premiered in 1968, György Ligeti was surprised to hear his Lux Aeterna featured prominently in the movie’s score. Kubrick later used Ligeti’s music in two of his other films—with permission!
- Pavane, Op. 50 by Gabriel Fauré was originally written for piano and chorus in the late 1880s.
- Ina Boyle achieved some major successes early in her career—she is the only female composer included in the Carnegie Collection of British Music—and studied with Vaughan Williams, who regarded her highly. But she often had to struggle to get her music performed or published.
