Let the engaging sounds of music by Scottish composer and conductor Sir James MacMillan captivate you. MacMillan’s music draws from his Scottish heritage, strong Catholic faith, and social conscience, and is influenced by Celtic folk music as well as Far Eastern, Scandinavian, and Eastern European music. Hear 7 Twin Cities church choirs join forces to perform MacMillan’s pieces, including a world premiere commission performed in the majestic Cathedral of Saint Paul.

THINGS TO KNOW

• Sir James MacMillan is a world-renowned Scottish composer and conductor. His deep Catholic faith as well as influences from his Scottish heritage and Celtic folk music are reflected in his compositions.

• MacMillan has been commissioned to write a new piece that will be premiered by the church choirs that are performing at this concert.

• Queen Elizabeth II personally commissioned James MacMillan in 2011 to write a piece of music for her funeral. Who shall separate us? was first performed on September 19, 2022 at the state funeral of Queen Elizabeth II and will be performed at this concert by the Westminster Presbyterian Choir.
