The music of Minneapolis composer David Evan Thomas, born in Rochester, New York, has been described as playful, warm, expressive, and radiant. Thomas has degrees from Northwestern University, Eastman School of Music, and the University of Minnesota, where he studied under composer Dominick Argento. Thomas composes for a variety of instrumental and vocal ensembles, including works for orchestra and wind ensemble, chamber works, pieces for organ and piano, and song cycles. He has written over sixty choral works where, as an active choral singer himself, Thomas takes great care in writing lyrical melodies that are rewarding to sing. His music has been recognized with a number of awards, including a Citation from the American Academy, the An die Musik Award from the Schubert Club, the Martin Luther Hymn Prize, and a Renée B. Fisher Composer Award.
