Jonathan Dove
b. 1959
English composer Jonathan Dove is one of today’s most prolific and active composers of opera, orchestral, and choral music. Dove was born into a family of architects, but loved music from a young age as a pianist, organist, and violist. He studied composition under Robin Holloway at the University of Cambridge. He is perhaps best known for writing over twenty innovative operas that delight and inspire a wide variety of audiences. Passionate about creating community connections, he creates operas and projects connecting children and adults with music that is accessible and enjoyable, especially for audiences new to opera. Additionally, Dove has written a large body of lush and spirited works for choir that are appropriate in a concert or liturgical setting and are performed around the world. In 2019, Dove was honored by being appointed a Commander of the British Empire (CBE).
