CALLING ALL CLAPPERS, STOMPERS, AND SNOW ANGEL-MAKERS! SING & CRAFT WITH VOCALESSENCE AT HOLIDAY FAMILY EVENT — “WINTER WONDER”
The holiday show returns to Mia with a new name and more times!—Dec. 14
MINNEAPOLIS— June 26, 2019—VocalEssence is so eager to share the joy of holiday singing with children that it created Winter Wonder, a family event filled with musical memory-making, no concert manners required!
The tradition began as the Star of Wonder concert, which moved to Mia (the Minneapolis Institute of Arts) in 2018 and evolved to include more hands-on diversions for its high-energy target audience.
This year, the seasonal event designed especially for kids under eight years old will have three showtimes in the Mia reception hall.
Toddlers and young children will first be led through a winter themed craft project. Adult members of the VocalEssence Chorus and high school artists from VocalEssence Singers Of This Age will share holiday songs, invite the audience to sing along, and even show them how to use their craft project to contribute to the concert. Teddy bears and bottles are optional, costumes and fidgeting are encouraged, and being too excited to keep quiet is expected!
Images are available here.
The three events on Saturday, December 14 in the Reception Hall at the Minneapolis Institute of Art, Minneapolis are:
Winter Wonder, 9-10:15 am (crafts 9-9:30 am; concert 9:30-10:15 am).
Winter Wonder, 11-12:15 pm (crafts 11-11:30 am; concert 11:30 am-12:15 pm).
Winter Wonder, 1-2:15 pm (crafts 1-1:30 pm; concert 1:30-2:15 pm).
Tickets are currently available as part of a 2019-20 Family Series Subscription. Single tickets go on sale on Monday, August 5, 2019.
“Those of us who love choral music love the energy — we are in this to make noise!” says VocalEssence Founder and Artistic Director Philip Brunelle. “If you’re performing for a small child and you don’t see her wiggling and trying to sing along, you aren’t doing your job. We want to see the movement, hear the engagement, and we want grownups to have fun watching it, too. We give our Winter Wonder audience a hands-on activity and plenty of opportunities to join in the singing, and they leave with a happy memory that will one day, hopefully, drive them to other holiday concerts.”
VocalEssence, called “one of the irreplaceable music ensembles of our time” by Dana Gioia, past chairman of the National Endowment for the Arts, impacts thousands of students, singers, and composers each year through its initiative programs, contests, and support for innovative art.
