The Montserrat Boy Choir.
One of the most-anticipated performances coming to the Twin Cities is coming all the way from Catalonia. The Montserrat Boy Choir, an elite choir from one of Spain’s oldest music schools, will perform at the Basilica of St. Mary in Minneapolis on November 11.
“We are thrilled to be bringing this legendary choir,” said VocalEssence founder and artistic director Philip Brunelle, whose organization is hosting the Spanish choir. “Founded 800 years ago, [it is] a living expression of the timeless power of vocal performance.”
The Montserrat Boy Choir is made up of boys ranging in age from 9 to 14, all students at the Escolania de Montserrat in Spain’s Catalonia region. The official choir of the Benedictine Abbey of Santa Maria de Montserrat, which occupies a mountain near Barcelona, the ensemble will perform works ranging from Gregorian chant and music of the Spanish Baroque to pieces by Bernat Vivancos and Zoltan Kodály.
