VOCALESSENCE FILLS AN ENTIRE CATHEDRAL…WITH SONG!
Minneapolis-based choral ensemble will join forces with The St. Olaf Choir the Cathedral of Saint Paul to present a concert on October 28, from 2-4 p.m.
MINNEAPOLIS — August 1, 2018 — The VocalEssence Chorus & Ensemble Singers will join The St. Olaf Choir in the Cathedral of Saint Paul for a special program, “Music for a Grand Cathedral,” designed specifically to take advantage of the landmark church’s elegant and soaring space. The joint performance, at 2 p.m. on Oct. 28, will feature a full rendering of the gorgeous Mass in G minor by Ralph Vaughan Williams, a mystical masterpiece featuring the composer’s signature lush English harmonies. The concert is one of several special performances in the 50th Anniversary Season of VocalEssence. Tickets start at $10 and are available at https://www.vocalessence.org/event/concert-music-for-a-grand-cathedral/.
“We’re excited to give our audience the chance to soak in Vaughan Williams’s Mass in G minor in a space worthy of its expansive beauty, the majestic Cathedral of Saint Paul,” says VocalEssence Founder and Artistic Director Philip Brunelle. “This piece is especially timely for VocalEssence—it was written when the composer turned 50. The half-century mark has a way of making people—and organizations—reflect on the past, even as they imagine and build toward the future.”
Subscription tickets are currently available as part of a 50th Concert Series Subscription, and single tickets go on sale on Monday, August 13. The 50th Anniversary Concert Series also includes the annual Welcome Christmas Concert, as well as a special VocalEssence WITNESS concert celebrating women, a performance of Candide and a concert featuring the words and music of Minnesota’s native son and Nobel Laureate, Bob Dylan.
