In preparation for the 3rd Annual Together We Sing Festival, VocalEssence Associate Conductor Phillip Shoultz has devoted time this summer to developing a relationship with Ujamaa Place. After meeting with Executive Director, Otis Zanders, and touring the facilities, Phillip recently led his first talk in a series of presentations that will explore, “Sharing Your Truth: Public Speaking with Meaning.” Additional workshops around Unlocking Expression and Creativity are also planned for the future.
The Together We Sing Festival always features a service component that benefits a worthy organization. Ujamaa Place will be the beneficiary of this years’ service project. Ujamaa Place serves a very specific role in the social services continuum – to work with young African American men who lack a GED or are currently testing at a 4th grade level educationally, and/or are homeless, have mental health issues, chemical health issues, etc.
VocalEssence is delighted to join the “village” of partners, supporters, community leaders, and volunteers that are the essence of the rich cultural experience present at Ujamaa Place.
