Current members of VocalEssence Singers Of This Age (including a few graduating seniors) spent a week together building community, learning, and creating. The Choosing Love Creators Camp kick-started the year and was focused on creative collaboration.
The first portion of the week was comprised of 15 hours of workshops led by guest artists including:
- Joe Davis, a nationally-touring artist, educator, and speaker based in Minneapolis, MN. He employs poetry, music, theater, and dance to shape culture.
- Aaron Fiskradatz, a theatre artist and educator based in the Twin Cities.
- Chadwick “Niles” Phillips, a hip-hop artist, director, producer, actor, host, motivational speaker and teacher of his own curriculum entitled “Hip-Hop, History and The Arts”.
During the workshops singers explored theater, songwriting, poetry, hip hop, dance, and—of course—singing! VESOTA members are working to learn how to create art across difference and discovered that it requires the members to use different tools to make connections.
After a few days full of workshops, VESOTA headed up to Alexandria, Minnesota for some fun! Singers raced go karts, went bumper boating, and even held their own VESOTA Prom! Scroll down to see a few images from the week.
