For Artistic Director and Founder Philip Brunelle, the month of March is for “Call of the North.” Having finished two full days of recording and videotaping at the IDS Crystal Court with the Ensemble Singers, the coming weeks will be devoted to editing sessions leading to the March 28 premiere at 4PM. At the same time he will be preparing for all the Plymouth Church services leading up to Easter. And WITNESS occupies him now–with April 10 and 11 as their recording days at Bethel University with more than 100 socially distanced singers–quite a feat!
Of course, plans for the 2021-22 season are moving forward and he hopes to have these exciting plans ready to share with you before too long!
The month of March is filled with conversation, collaboration, research, and arranging for Associate Conductor G. Phillip Shoultz, III as he is shepherding the creative process for the next project in the VESOTA series, Create, and also for this year’s WITNESS program which highlights the role music plays in advancing movements of social change.
He is guiding VESOTA through an intensive process of co-creation among the singers and will guest artists, including the putting the final touches on The Other Side, which will be the capstone experience of unique collaboration with composer, Kyle Pederson.
Upcoming lectures and training sessions with the ACDA-MN Board of Directors, Temple University, the University of Oregon, the Newburyport Choral Society, and NATS Boston all take place during this month.
Take 5 with GPS is rapidly approaching the 1 year milestone. Every day at 9 am central time–7 days a week–for close to 350 consecutive days, Phillip has gathered with the “Take 5 family” around to globe to share gratitude, receive inspiration, and sing together. In the month of March, Phillip continues to highlight Black creativity and genius with a focus on the accomplishments of trailblazing women from all professional paths both past and present.
